At HMS, we’re more than a company—we’re a community of employee-owners united by a shared mission to advance healthcare quality, safety, and access. In 2022, we took a bold step forward by becoming a 100% employee-owned company through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). This means every ESOP participant holds a real stake in our future—and yours.

How the ESOP Works

  • Trust-Based Ownership: Shares are held in a trust on behalf of employees, with individual accounts growing over time.

  • Diversification Options: As you near retirement, you’ll have the opportunity to diversify your holdings.

  • Distribution: Upon retirement, you’ll begin receiving payments of your vested ESOP account balance in the following year. Upon resignation or termination, you’ll begin receiving payments of your vested balance five years after separation regardless of your age at time.
